Clare Carney

Clare only intended to work in research for a few weeks, accepting a 6 week contract with a large central London agency while deciding what to do with her life. The 6 weeks turned into 7 years, during which time Clare developed excellent skills in project design, management and delivery, as well as a friendly and efficient client management style. Clare worked in several research areas within the business to business sector, syndicated and proprietary research, tracking and ad-hoc, service measurement, market share and brand image, using a range of data collection methodologies – pen and paper, face to face, CATI, postal.

Clare moved to another global research agency, this time specialising in international consumer research, again covering both tracking and ad-hoc studies. In this role, Clare gained research experience in over 50 countries, some more challenging than others. The scope of global coverage called for creative solutions in difficult circumstances. It was in this role that Clare developed her interest in brand and innovation research, something that she remains interested in to this day.

In 2007, in between the birth of her two sons, Clare moved to Bonamy Finch where she co-ordinates branding studies and manages key client relationships, dispensing wisdom and chocolate as she goes.

20 years of research experience, excellent client handling skills, organisation, biscuits, love and laughter.

Who is your favourite Muppet?

It’s a close run thing between Gonzo and Animal, but Animal just pips it. We have a similar sense of rhythm and he has a great style.

What's the most embarrassing thing to happen to you?

Kissing a client while his girlfriend was in the toilet. I didn’t initiate it, and I was quite young, but to this day I am still embarrassed. I should add we were in the pub and not a meeting. 

And if you hadn’t worked in research?

I’d have owned an old fashioned sweetshop, cola pips and lemon sherbets in big jars, penny sweets in small trays, candy floss and slush puppies.  I’d have even wider hips and all the local gossip.
