Having graduated with an Economics degree in 1993 Frances initially worked at Bedfordshire’s Business and Enterprise Council doing outreach research amongst under-privileged groups.
Keen to move into the corporate research sector Frances joined a leading, global research company as an Assistant Statistician working exclusively in their customer satisfaction department. During this time she conducted a variety of multivariate analysis and path models, with particular emphasis on regression analysis and structural equation modelling. After a couple of years Frances moved to a sister company as an analyst within a large global marketing science centre. During her ten years there she worked on a wide range of advanced analytical techniques, including segmentations, branding, conjoint analysis and key driver analysis.
Frances joined Bonamy Finch in 2006 and has continued to work on a variety of advanced research methods.
Why did you want to become a research analyst?
I love doing puzzles – and being a research analyst means I get the opportunity to solve lots of puzzles all day long.
What is your favourite research technique?
Probably conjoint analysis. It is less ambiguous than many other techniques and can be customised to answer such a wide range of questions.
What was your scariest work story?
Right at the beginning of my career I remember a client phoned up to arrange the presentation date to be greeted by a very surprised Research Director – who had completely forgotten to put the job through field!
What do you particularly like about working at Bonamy Finch?
I love working with such a variety of different people – all who enjoy their job as much as me. Sadly we all get fairly excited discussing weird and wonderful new techniques.
What would you have done if you hadn’t gone into Research?
As a teenager I desperately wanted to be a jockey! More realistically I think I would have enjoyed being a primary school teacher.
